200 Hour & 500 Hour Certification Programs
Featuring Beryl Bender Birch
We are proud to be an affiliate school of The Hard & The Soft Yoga Institute and to host teacher trainings directed by Beryl Bender Birch.
The Hard & The Soft Yoga Institute is a Registered Yoga School with Yoga Alliance and offers training for both 200 and 500 Hour Certification programs. Our curriculum is one of the most comprehensive and highly respected programs in the country, and makes it an excellent choice for those just starting out, as well as for established teachers working toward a 500 hour certification.
Our Teacher Training programs are approximately year long courses. The 200 Hour Certification course consists of 8 weekends, held monthly. The 300 hour is 12 weekends stretched out over 14 months (no classes in December or August) and is for those students and teachers who have already received a 200 Hour Certification from any Registered Yoga School, including ours, and are working toward registration with Yoga Alliance at the 500 hour level. After graduation from our 300 hour program, teachers are certified at the 500 hour level through The Hard & The Soft Yoga Institute and eligible for registry with Yoga Alliance. This is an opportunity to take your own teaching and practice to the next level.
Yoga Teachers are increasingly being called upon by students for help in exploring the more subtle aspects of the yoga practices, like pranayama and meditation. Many teachers are teaching asana, but very few are teaching an integral vision of the complete 8-limbed path of classical (raja) yoga, the “royal” path. This training offers you not only a comprehensive study of several different modalities of asana including assists, adjustments, modifications, and alignment, plus the more subtle and refined practices of pranayama and pratyahara, but an in depth exploration of the inner limbs of the 8 limbed path – dharana, dhyana, and samadhi.
Our director, Beryl, is the author of four books on yoga, including the best selling, Power Yoga, and her most recent book Yoga for Warriors. She has been teaching yoga and meditation for 40 years. She is also the Director/Founder of the Give Back Yoga Foundation, which supports yoga teachers in developing service projects in under-served areas of their communities. For the past two years she has focused on developing resources for veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.
Additionally, this program also incorporates the first hand experiences of The Hard & The Soft faculty – all of whom are 500 or 1000 hour graduates of our program – working in the huge and growing field of yoga therapy, and provides training in working with various special populations. As approaches to health care continue to focus on wellness and preventative care, yoga therapeutics has become and will continue to be a primary vehicle for integrative wellness programs of the future.
The program offers an extraordinary opportunity for complete immersion into yoga and all it’s dimensions, as well as the yoga lifestyle. Surround yourself with like-minded individuals and follow your dream to become an accomplished yoga practitioner and teacher. This program will provide you with the skill, knowledge and confidence to begin teaching yoga, and the weekend format makes it easy to participate. The course is also appropriate for those who may not be interested in teaching but simply wish to advance their training in the study of yoga.
